Vampire Sick Day

"I can't get sick," Key said in a painfully fake British accent.

Donovan glared at him from the couch and considered tossing his tissue at him but decided it wasn't worth the effort.

"I don't sound like that," he grumbled.

"Pretty damn close."

The disgruntled vampire was buried under a pile of blankets and an only slightly smaller pile of tissues.  Seemingly overnight he had come down with the cold from hell which he was pretty sure he had gotten from Key.  Key of course was all better now and when he wasn't doting over his lover and making sure he was okay he was laughing at him.  He was effectively doing both at the moment however.

"Sorry Donovan but you brought this on yourself," Key said.  "You're the one who kept saying how you couldn't get sick, remember?"

"Well I thought I couldn't!" Donovan argued.  "Honestly how is it even physically possible that I'm sick?"

Leo walked down the stairs and into the living room joining the conversation with a smirk.  "It isn't, it's all in your head," he declared.  

"Really?"  The hope in Donovan's eyes was enough to almost make Leo feel bad.

"How should I know?"

Key gave Leo a look of disapproval.  "Leo that isn't helping."

Leo snickered in response. "Sorry brother.  The truth of the matter is that I really don't know if it's physically possible, but it seems to be since you're currently diminishing our entire supply of cold medicine and tissues."

"But I've never been sick before!" Donovan whined.  "At least not since I was sixteen anyway."

"Not true," Leo said matter of factly.  "You've been sick once before about a hundred and forty years ago."

"Huh?  How come I don't remember that?" Donovan asked.

Leo laughed.  "Because you have the memory of a goldfish, you always have.  Anyway, you got the flu and I spent the better part of a week caring for you.  I even let you drink my blood because you couldn't go out and get any yourself and I damn sure wasn't going to bring someone home."

"That was sweet of you," Key said with a small smile.

"Hmph!  Sweet nothing, I was simply trying to get him to stop whining."

Donovan pouted.  "I'm not whiny."

He was met with two looks of complete and utter disbelief.

"I'm not!"

"Of course you aren't sweetheart," Key said carefully.  "I mean you aren't normally anyway..."

Donovan pouted further and Key couldn't help but find it completely adorable.  If it wasn't for the fact that Donovan was suffering he would wish to see this side of him more often.  It was nice taking care of him for once.

Leo rolled his eyes at Key's obvious display of admiration.  "Well if you don't mind me I'm going to go bring Mir his dinner.  You know playing waiter to a bored senseless twelve year old isn't the most fun thing to do.  He's going crazy being cooped up upstairs."

"I'm sorry Leo," Key apologized.  "But we're all pretty sure you really can't get sick and we don't want Mir coming anywhere near Donovan.  The last thing he needs is some weird form of mutated vampire cold germs."

"Thanks dear," Donovan grumbled.

Key smiled and grabbed the trash can to gather Donovan's mountain of tissues.  Leo rolled his eyes yet again and disappeared into the kitchen, though as he turned away he had a small smile of his own.  Despite how often he made fun of the pair it really was comforting to know that Donovan had finally found someone.  Leo had long ago grown tired of seeing Donovan bring home random strangers.

"I'm sure you'll get better soon," Key assured Donovan, kissing his forehead.  "And it really isn't all that bad, it just feels worse no doubt because you aren't used to being sick."

Donovan continued to pout and fumbled for the remote, turning on the TV and flipping channels once he actually found it.

"How about I make you some soup and we watch a movie together?"

Donovan looked over at Key.

"But you could get sick again."

"I'll take my chances."

Key leaned in and lightly kissed his lover's lips before heading towards the kitchen himself.

"Key," Donovan called, causing Key to turn around so quickly he almost fell over.

"What?  Are you okay?"

"Yes I'm alright," Donovan said with a smile.  Key was always more worried about others than himself.  "I just wanted to thank you for being so good to me that's all."

Key smiled.  "That's the kind of thing you do for someone you love."

Donovan watched Key disappear into the kitchen before settling back into his blankets.  He knew he should make the young human sit in the chair when he returned and not curl up with him on the couch but frankly Donovan wanted to be selfish.  He just couldn't wait to have Key in his arms again.
