Stamp - Fibromyalgia Sucks by onnawufei Stamp - Fibromyalgia Sucks by onnawufei
Because it DOES!

I'd heard of fibromyalgia before but didn't really have any idea what it was until I started having really bad back pain that nothing seemed to help. Then it went to my knees, and I started feeling really exhausted for no apparent reason. That's when my best friend's mom (who is awesome) suggested that I might have fibromyalgia and I looked it up. I went to the doctor not too long later and yup. Within an hour he told me that's what I had. Since then it's gotten worse and I now have pain in my hips and there are times when it hurts just to be touched in certain places. It's very rare for me not to be in any pain at all. 99.9% of the time something hurts to some degree.

There's no cure for fibromyalgia. Doctors don't even know what exactly causes it, and some of them don't believe it even exists. People with fibro have to manage their time along with their pain. Do I do some cleaning after work, or do I do something fun? I can't do both, I don't have the energy.

So yeah. It SUCKS.

I've had it for 3.5 years now, and it totally does SUCK............BIG TIME, to say the very least.
I have constant pain from my shoulders down to my toes, including numbness in both feet and hands.

My mom has fibromyalgia, and she has IBS, acid reflux, and arthritis on top of it, so there are times in which she's in a living hell, especially during her flare-ups. I feel so bad for her because she's in so much pain, and there's nothing I can do for her.

I will proudly place this in my journal to show my support for those who have this disease. :D

Ugh, that's so awful. :< I know how hard it is to deal with just having fibro, so I have so much respect for people who have to deal with other things on top of it and somehow manage to still go on living. Your mom is awesome.

My friend Alan suffers from fibromyalgia. He has no medicine to treat it, either, because none of it works for him. :( So agreed, it certainly does suck. :+favlove:

Ugh, that's awful. He has my sympathy. :<

I was thinking of going off my medication since I don't remember what it felt like to be without it, and I'd like to be able to compare how I feel now to how I felt then. But my husband reminded me that I was spending most of my day laying on the floor (for some reason it's more comfortable there) crying. I can't imagine being like that all the time.

Alan's very good at managing the pain. Most of the time he's fairly upbeat. Still, I imagine the pain gets pretty bad at times. :(

Indeed it does.
My grandma suffers from it. Rather severely at times. She gets flares that nearly incapacitate her, and I always feel really bad seeing her like that :c
There's a strong possibility that she passed it down to me as well. I've been having chronic problems with my back and neck recently and nothing seems to be helping.

oh yes, it does. majorly.

and what you forgot is that's it's not just widespread pain; there's conditions that come with it, too, like interstitial cystitis for me.

this in addition to daily headaches. yeah, I know how you feel.

Hope you feel better.

Ugh, I feel so bad for everyone who has all of the conditions that go along with it. Right now I don't have any, and I'm really hoping it stays that way, but I'm not holding my breath.

It's really sad that I feel like I need to "enjoy" it while I can. :/

My mom and I both have this- a probable cause is that some of the nerve endings are messed up and the pain receptors think almost anything is pain, if you know what I mean.
On my arms, legs, shoulders, and back, someone just tapping me there would give me enough pain to scream. The same goes for my mother- my mom also thinks it could be hereditary since we both have it.
Medication is a good treatment, though. My mom's fibro is a lot worse than mine so she needs it more than I do. I do have the lack of energy from it as well. >.<

TL;DR, I 100% agree, it friggin' sucks.

The possibly being hereditary thing is one of the reasons I don't want to have kids. That and the fact that it would just be way too exhausting. I can't even keep up with cats. x_x

The first time I experienced the pain just from being touched I mentioned it to my doctor so he was just gently applying pressure to certain areas, not poking me violently or anything. He pressed on my upper chest area (like a little below my collar bone) and I screamed. O_O

I DIDN'T SIGN UP FOR THIS!

I'm still working on that proper medication thing. I was on one that was working great for the pain but giving me really bad side effects. Now I'm on one that doesn't give me side effects, but isn't really helping the pain.

Eventually I'll find something!

Ah that sucks. I once got told I had fibro, but it turned out to not be true because though everything always hurts, it's not in the places it's supposed to be for it to be fibro, and I have no lack of energy(I work 10-12 hours a day and still have enough energy), just pain. It's probably something else reumatic but they don't know what exactly. I can't imagine what it must be like to have pain and be tired all the time, it must really suck! I think the suckiest thing is how some doctors/people deny it. Just because you can't explain it, doesn't mean it's not real.

I'm really lucky in that the first doctor I saw (besides the walk in clinic type places who said I'd strained my back) believed fibro is real. And thankfully I haven't run into anybody who thinks I'm just a lazy ass... at least as far as I know.
