Once Bitten -Part Two-

I saved Donovan's life.  

The thought stayed with me for days though I never brought it up.  I suppose I knew this to be true before Leo told me but something about hearing it from Donovan's brother, his twin brother made it seem more real.

I spent my days acting as if nothing had happened, trying to ignore the itch of the healing wounds on my neck.  My nights were spent laying in bed wondering if Donovan would need my "services" again, and secretly I hoped he would.  None of this caused any kind of conflict between myself and Donovan, but Leo wasn't quite as easy to get along with.  Leo knew.

"You humans can be so pathetic sometimes," he said to me a week after Donovan's visit.

"Excuse me?  You were human once too you know," I replied angrily.  "Who are you to judge me anyway?  At least I know what I am.  You're not a human, you're not a vampire you're just a walking corpse."

He was obviously taken aback by my response and for a brief second I wondered if he felt bad for agitating the situation.  Of course he didn't, that was obvious by the chuckle that came soon after.

"You have a sharp tongue, I'll give you that," he said.  "But you're still just a stupid human.  And yes I was human once, I never denied that fact.  I'd give anything to be completely human again.  It's because I was once human that I realize how flawed they are."

I turned away from him, tempted to leave.  I couldn't though, my curiosity was getting the better of me and I knew full well I was walking right into his trap.

"Oh fine then!  Out with it!"  I finally demanded.

He laughed again and I found myself wanting to slap the smile off his pretty blue face.

"You lay in bed hoping Donovan will come back to you, meanwhile Donovan is in his bed looking for some excuse to do just that.  He knows if he simply comes in and says that he's wanted you ever since he first saw you that you would freak out.  However he also knows that he can't just drain your blood every time he feels the need for a little attention.  Key you have turned my brother into a child."

I blinked at him and I'm sure in that moment I seemed like a complete idiot.

"I have seen Donovan seduce both men and women with ridiculous ease," Leo continued.  "It never mattered that he looked so young, they were drawn in by his charisma.  Whether he wanted their blood or sex didn't matter either, he could get whichever he wanted from virtually whoever he wanted.  Then he meets you and...  Dear God Key, he's become emo."

On one hand the thought of Donovan seducing anyone turned my stomach.  I wasn't foolish, I knew he'd done such things in his past but I didn't really feel like hearing about them.  On the other the fact that I could possibly have such an effect on him... well as much as I hate to admit it, the thought made me incredibly happy.

Leo sighed.

"My brother cares very deeply for you, he may even love you.  I know you care for him as well, even if I wasn't psychic I'd be able to tell that much.  You need to simply get over whatever reservations you have about gender roles in romance and give him a chance."

"Wait," I said feeling a little perplexed.  "I thought you hated me.  Why are you trying to set me up with your brother?"

Leo laughed yet again, but this time it sounded different.

"I don't hate you Key.  I enjoy tormenting you yes, but that's only because it's so damn easy.  And yes I do think you're a stupid human but remember I also admit that I was one myself once.  Besides, you make Donovan happy... and that matters to me most.  Well, I mean besides me of course, but seeing Donovan happy makes me happy so there we've come full circle."

"I honestly don't know what to think of you," I said.  "One minute you're calling me names the next minute you're trying to get me to hop in bed with your brother."

He chose to end the conversation then and went back to reading his book leaving me no better off than I was initially.  I knew that in the end I needed to make my own decision and work this through myself.  It took me another few days to decide what to do, and ultimately I realized my best course of action was to simply forget it.
